Sarah Palin VP Pick

Fox News is reporting Sarah Palin is the VP Pick. A hat tip to Adam at Palin for VP for promoting Sarah Palin all over the internet. Here’s some Palin info from Adam’s Palin for VP.

What I had failed to realize was that she had habitually knocked of powerful incumbent opponents and was a quick learner on the job. In the 2006 gubernatorial election, she rolled over scandal-prone incumbent Frank Murkowski in the GOP primary, then went on to defeat former governor Tony Knowles in the general election - pretty impressive. Further back, she had knocked off an entrenched incumbent to become mayor of Wasilla, then developed a reputation as a hard-nosed, effective mayor. Her performance in Wasilla got her elected president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors and earned her the nickname “Sarah Barracuda”.

In the end, I decided that Sarah Palin had actually compiled a rather astounding record of achievements in her 42 years, and was more than capable of making the jump to the national level. So now I ask you who you would rather have as your Vice-President. You could accept conventional wisdom and choose from the lineup of old men currently being bantered about, or you could choose an inspiring leader like Sarah Palin. As for me, I’m going with “Sarah Barracuda”, a candidate who will help us win the election and then deliver solid results.
Selected quotes from palinforgovernor.com

FREE MARKET – “I am a conservative Republican, a firm believer in free market capitalism. A free market system allows all parties to compete, which ensures the best and most competitive project emerges, and ensures a fair, democratic process.”

EDUCATION – Click here to read Gov. Palin’s full position paper on Education.

GUNS AND HUNTING - “I am a lifetime member of the NRA, I support our Constitutional right to bear arms and am a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska’s youth….I have always strongly supported the personal use of fish and game by Alaskans. I grew up hunting and fishing in Alaska, and I am proud to raise my children with this same uniquely Alaskan heritage. … Anti-hunting groups who oppose hunting and fishing rights will be the winners if we allow them to pit us against ourselves….As an Alaskan with strong beliefs on this issue, I am confident in my ability to build consensus among diverse user groups and reconcile the many competing interests in a manner.”

SMALL BUSINESS – “As Mayor and CEO of the booming city of Wasilla, my team invited investment and encouraged business growth by eliminating small business inventory taxes, eliminated personal property taxes, reduced real property tax mill levies every year I was in office, reduced fees, and built the infrastructure our businesses needed to grow and prosper.”

MILITARY - “I respect our military personnel and understand the importance of Alaska’s National Guard. As I watched our military men and women being deployed I recognized how important it is for their families to know how much Alaska and America support them.”

HEALTH CARE – “I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. I also support patients in their rightful demands to have access to full medical billing information.”

SOCIAL ISSUES – “I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman.”

ENVIRONMENT – “Regimes to protect Stellar Sea Lions must be based on sound science not personal agendas…I will fight in every way possible to make sure that our fishing communities are protected from the personal agendas of federal fishery managers”

“I believe in protecting Alaska’s environment through fair enforcement of our environmental laws. Having a clean record on environmental regulation is critical to getting ANWR open and maintaining our fisheries mining, timber, and tourism industries.”

Defend The Heroes - Answering John Murtha

Vets For Russell: The following ad by the William Russell for Congress answers Congressman Jack Murtha's long public indictment of American Marines was factually wrong. Instead of "cold blooded killers," court rulings reveal a dramatically different story of personal courage under fire. True heroism.
Lt. Col. Bill Russell's grassroots campaign in Pennsylvania 12th Congressional District is setting the record straight. By standing up for fellow veterans, military personnel and average taxpayers, Russell is taking on one of Washington's most entrenched powerbrokers in what columnist Michelle Malkin calls a "David versus Goliath" contest. A survivor of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the Pentagon, Bill's campaign is a call to conservative reform and patriotic action at the William Russell for Congress Site!

Reporting from the Republican National Convention

Next week I will be blogging from the Republican National Convention. Thanks to Blogs for John McCain's Victory, and the RNC I've been granted a press pass to cover the event. As I joked with one person, I'll need go find myself glittery flag apparel, and a straw hat covered with McCain stickers so that I can appear appropriate. None-the-less, it's very exciting to cover this event, and I plan to post frequently at Blogs for John McCain's Victory, Purple People Vote, Blogs4McCain and NH4McCain.

Also, I'd like to ask readers for their input. Is there any part of the convention that you would like to see? Do you have any questions you would like asked? I'll do my best to provide a view of the convention not normally seen in the main stream media, and hope I can provide answers to readers questions. Hope you'll check in frequently, and thank you for visiting/reading.

The Trouble with the Democrat's Love of Liberal Elites

Excerpt from The Mystery of Obama's Problems

John McCain is pulling ahead of Obama. The latest Reuters poll has Grandpa Munster up five percentage points over our secular messiah. The Real Clear Politics average of polls has Obama and McCain in a virtual tie. And, according to RCP, if the race were held today and McCain took the toss-up states where he's currently ahead, he'd be the next president. Yes, it's early. McCain has had a good couple weeks. But these were McCain's first good couple weeks since he secured the nomination. Meanwhile, with the exception of the Jeremiah Wright unpleasantness, Obama has had a good couple years.

The winds at the Democrats' backs are hurricane-force gales, and yet there's Obama holding steady, like a young Dan Rather in his schoolgirl rain slicker, immobile and unmovable.

Ask the typical Obama supporter why this should be so and you'll get a range of answers. Some just stare at the poll numbers the way my late basset hound would look at me when I tried to feed him a grape: with pure unblinking incomprehension. Others act like the guy who sits alone with his shopping bags at the public library, muttering about Fox News conspiracies and how Karl Rove-like aliens are doing terrible things with probes of proctological exactitude. Still others just shake their heads at the racism of anyone who could possibly have a problem with a very left-wing politician with almost no experience, who often sounds like his campaign slogan is: "People of Earth! Stop Your Bickering. I Am From Harvard, And I'm Here To Help."

Perhaps therein lies the answer to this supposed mystery. Indeed, perhaps there's no mystery at all, and Obama's problems are the same problems Democrats always have at the presidential level: He's an elitist.

Oh, I know. Upon reading that, some liberal spluttered herbal chai tea from her nose at the injustice of this whole elitist canard, and the earnest Ivy League interns at some liberal magazine have burst into laughter, offering the appropriate bons mots from Balzac at the preposterousness of such a suggestion, saying: "Don't you conservatives understand? Democrats care about the little guy. They're on the side of the proletariat -- I mean workers -- and as Obama has so eloquently put it, if the workers would only stop clinging to their silly sky god and guns, they'd understand that."

Liberalism is often a problem at the presidential level. Cultural liberalism is a burden. Haughty cultural liberalism is a disaster in the making. For good or ill, the presidency is a cultural institution as much as it is a political institution. And it's fundamentally a culturally conservative one. Fair or not, many perceive Obama as a cultural outsider. This week, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said of Obama's friendship with former left-wing domestic terrorist Bill Ayers: "They're friends. So what?"

Gard for Congress World Tour Ad

Our Republican candidates across the country are doing a great job of getting out the message that we must increase the supply of American energy. Today, we highlight a fantastic new television ad by John Gard, who's running against Democrat incumbent Steve Kagen in Wisconsin-08. Let's Get This Right -- after viewing the following video, visit John Gard for Congress:

Obama Buys Real Estate from a Convicted Felon, Then Criticizes McCain for Owning 7 Homes

Barack Obama's attacks on Senator McCain this week have been extremely sloppy and very ironic. First, he criticized a McCain fund raiser for having ties to Jack Abramoff. Yet Senator McCain led the Abramoff investigation, and Obama fund raiser William Ayers not only has shady associations, but he is an unrepentant terrorist and was a member of the Weather Underground. Now Senator Obama is critical of Senator McCain for owning several homes, some of which are investment properties. A rather ironic criticism since none of Senator McCain's properties were purchased from a convicted felon unlike Senator Obama who purchased property from Tony Rezco, good friend, Obama fund raiser, and convicted felon.

Obama Buys Real Estate from a Convicted Felon, Then Criticizes McCain for Owning 7 Homes

It’s “above my pay grade"

ARRA News Service: An interesting read appeared in the Boston Herald by Michael Graham:
"Well, uh, you know, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or, uh, a scientific perspective, uh, answering that question with specificity, uh, you know, is, is, uh, above my pay grade.” - Sen. Barack Obama, on “When does a baby get human rights?”

In 1948, they had Harry Truman and “The buck stops here!” In 2008, they’ve got Barack Obama and it’s “above my pay grade.” This is definitely not your grandfather’s Democratic Party. Certainly not mine . . . .

Watching Obama with the Rev. Rick Warren this past weekend, answering questions - or, more accurately, not answering - about his most basic beliefs was simply embarrassing. Obama supports partial-birth abortion and voted against the “Born Alive Infant Protection Act.” When he got the invitation to an evangelical forum hosted by a pro-life pastor, he had to know that issues regarding life and the law were going to come up. And his prepared answer to the most fundamental question about public policy and abortion (“is the fetus a human being?”) is that it’s “above my pay grade?”

There are certain sentences that should never appear on the lips of the Leader of the Free World. “That Vladimir Putin, what a great guy!” is one of them. “I did not have sex with that woman” is another. But on the very top of the list of statements about our nation’s laws that should never be spoken by a guy whose job it is to sit next to the Big, Red Button is “That’s above my pay grade.” . . .

Leaders don’t pass tough questions to the next “pay grade.” They don’t need five minutes to answer yes-or-no questions about the surge or Russia’s invasion of a democratic neighbor.

Politicians flip-flop on taxes and FISA and the Second Amendment to meet the political needs of the moment. They try to explain away the votes they’ve already cast, like Obama’s extreme pro-abortion voting record. Or they courageously cast 130 non-votes of “present” in the Illinois legislature and pass the buck that way.

That’s not leadership, that’s politics. And Barack Obama is 100 percent pure politician. He is certainly no Harry Truman. . . . [‘Pay grade’ unartful dodge]

Tell Congress NO to Gang of Ten Drilling Surrender... No Compromise

Center for Individual Freedom: The American people are telling our elected officials: "Drill Here and Drill Now!" But five Republicans-in-Name-Only (RINOs) are siding with the NO NEW DRILLING CROWD in Congress and basically betraying American families suffering severe financial hardship because of the high price of gasoline at the pump.

Five RINOs are trying to strike a deal with the devil and they're calling it a "compromise." [ARRA Reported on this ... full story] But like last year's so-called attempted "compromise" on amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens... it is NO SUCH THING! In actuality, it's a complete and total surrender... a capitulation to liberals who see record energy costs as a political football and tell you "inflate your tires," "we can't drive our SUVs" or we can't "eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees."

If you listened to Rush Limbaugh on Friday, you already know some of the sordid and DECEPTIVE details of this proposed SURRENDER:
"Essentially there is a Gang of Ten senators, five Republicans led by Lindsey Graham, John Thune, Saxby Chambliss, Bob Corker, and Johnny Isaakson. They joined five Democrats to craft an energy bill in the Senate that is exactly what Barack Obama wants. It is an utter disaster." [Emphasis Mine]

"It's a Democrat giveaway. ... The regulatory hurdles are huge. They have expanded. They are higher. PETA has a role. The ACLU has a role. The bill bars drilling within 50 miles of the United States coastline. That puts off limits some of the most productive areas -- even if the states allow it -- including in ANWR. Well, you can only drill in four states anyway under this bill, but no -- you can't drill any closer to 50 miles of the coastline... This deal would allow drilling if -- if and when -- the EPA and PETA and states and cities and counties and the ACLU clear the way."
In other words, we CAN drill as long as we drill only when PETA and the ACLU and the EPA say it's okay to drill! That's NOT "compromise!" That's essentially the same scam liberals have been perpetrating on the American people all along! And make no mistake, RIGHT NOW, at this very minute, these ten Senators are advancing their treacherous case... attempting to drive a stake into the heart of the grassroots movement to force Congress to "Drill Here and Drill Now!"

We can't let that happen! Contact President George W. Bush, Senators Graham, Thune, Chambliss, Corker and Isaakson and each and every Member of the Republican Leadership of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. Tell them that this ill-hatched plan from Graham, Thune, Chambliss, Corker and Isaakson MUST NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY! ARRA Contact Congress Info!

Fight or Die Republicans

Michael Reagan, Human Events: Republicans have their backs against the wall, facing a bloodbath on Election Day that will leave the party in shambles and the nation in the hands of the worst conglomeration of demagogues, scoundrels and loony leftists ever put together in our nation's history.

When you're fighting for your life, you have two choices: whimper about your plight while the other side cuts you to pieces, or fight as if your life depends on it, which of course it does . . . Republicans can unite to fight and win. Or they can do what they seem to do best these days, cringe and surrender. ...[Fight or Die Republicans]

Democrats Resist Logic - No Will To Drill

Charles KrauthammerARRA News Service -As often happens on Fridays, Charles Krauthammer has a devastating column. He skewers Democrats in Congress for their staunch opposition to producing more oil and for their weak arguments against doing so. Krauthammer writes:

By an overwhelming margin of 2 to 1, Americans want to lift the moratorium preventing drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, thus unlocking vast energy resources shut down for the past 27 years. Democrats have been adamantly opposed. They say that we cannot drill our way out of the oil crisis. Of course not. But it is equally obvious that we cannot solar or wind or biomass our way out. Does this mean that because any one measure cannot solve a problem, it needs to be rejected? . . . The consensus in the country, logically unassailable and politically unbeatable, is to do everything possible to both increase supply and reduce demand, because we have a problem that’s been killing our economy and threatening our national security. And no one measure is sufficient.” . . .

The problem for the Democrats is that the argument for ‘do everything’ is not rocket science. It is common sense. Which is why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, surveying the political rubble resulting from her insistence on not even permitting drilling to come to a floor vote, has quietly told her members that they can save their skins and vote for drilling when the pre-election Congress convenes next month. Pelosi says she wants to save the planet. Apparently saving her speakership comes first.” . . . [Read Charles Krauthammer's No Will To Drill]

Republicans Still Rock the House - Washington D. C. - Aug 8, 2008

ARRA News Service - In the House, the Republican protest over Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s refusal to allow a vote on drilling enters its second week today. The message is clearly having an impact, as Politico reports that “MoveOn.org announced Thursday it was launching radio ads targeting Republicans for organizing the protest.” MoveOn is apparently desperate to blunt the momentum for more drilling; a new Rasmussen poll that shows 57% of Democrats and 61% of independent voters see finding new energy sources as a priority. Rasmussen Reports also notes: “With energy issues taking center stage in the presidential campaign, 81% of Americans see development of new energy sources as an urgent priority. Only 9% disagree.”

I can not

to create in the Grizzly
Groundswell
and Let's Get This
Right
Networks. July 21st from 7-9PM CST http://www.blogtalkradio.com/grizzlygroundswell.

Honestly, I am just the catalyst to this grassroots conservative
movement that seemed not to have any orchestration. I like to call myself the
glorified custodian of the Grizzly Groundswell. It is truly an open market that
if not utilized, your blog and the conservative message will not be rewarded
with action and results. yet many strong, brilliant and motivated individuals
all yearning for a place to unite with similar folk that all are motivated in
expressing our different, but so similar conservative ideals, values and goals
for this great shining city on a hill have utilized this unique blogosphere
concept! It is too those individual that I owe all the praise, adoration and
thanks for making this possible.

I have been so blessed over this last year. I have met fast friends and
gained some amusing socialist squirrel enemies along the way. The enemies of the
Grizzly Groundswell, those fluffy little tailed socialist squirrels understand
my great grandfather defeated them once before and I am here to do the same.

My great grandfather did make one mistake. He dismantled his IVA
association after the historic recall and demise of the Socialist Non Partisan
Party and did not equip the next generations to keep socialist squirrels chased
out of our beloved institutions and our government. However, being a descendant
who took the time to research his strategic and heroic story, I now understand
what it will takes to once again bring the socialists squirrels to their knees.
I will be sharing with you some of my strategy and my vision for the Grizzly
Groundswells future.

Together, we are going to leave an institution that will forever educate,
unite and battle socialist squirrels for generations to come. We will never
vanquish this socialist, communist, Nazi fascist and radical sin or sickness
from humanity because as an idealism it is a seductive and persuasive deception
that the human slothfulness will always embrace if uneducated to its deadly
threat.

The key to defeating socialist squirrels is unity, motivation,
determination and education of the seductive deception socialism is by exposing
its despotism and corruption. Socialism always walks hand in hand with tyranny
and corruption. This is the threat and it's weakness. When good men and women do
nothing is when this evil takes hold and eats away at even a great country such
as ours like a cancer. We must remove it at every turn with surgical accuracy
through exposing the corruption and tyranny that always follow.

I can not do this alone. E. W. Everson did not do it alone. Nationwide,
good men and women stood alongside him and fought shoulder to shoulder for the
hearts and minds of the American people. We must do the same thing night and day
as we are doing on the Grizzly Groundswell!

I will also layout our exciting Grizzly Groundswell strategy for
covering the the Republican National Convention right here in St. Paul, MN, my
backyard!

[UPDATE AUGUST 5, 2008 #4]

The
issues with this attorney and her criminal activities was addressed
today by the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Her partner in crime
presented a letter of support with 739 signatures. The number of people
wanting her gone was not given. Here is the article published by the
Tucson Citizen today (
link here):

Pima County lawyer slammed, defended over sheriff piñata
B. POOLE
Tucson Citizen

Controversy
continued Tuesday over Isabel Garcia, the Pima County legal defender
who carried a paper-mâché head of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in
front of a cheering crowd during a protest last month.

The issue
was not on the agenda for Tuesday's Pima County Board of Supervisors
meeting, but about 20 speakers - about half in support of Garcia and
half in protest of her actions - came to a microphone during a call to
the audience.

During a July 10 protest she organized, Garcia,
who is a defense attorney, was seen holding the paper head - which had
been beaten off of a piñata by youths wielding sticks - while the crowd
cheered. The episode sparked calls for Garcia's disbarment and firing.

The
issue is not about immigration or Joe Arpaio, who was in Tucson for a
book signing, but about Garcia, who is also director of the Coalición
de Derechos Hermanos, inciting children to violence, Kendra Wood said.

"I don't think she has any business holding a position of public trust," Wood told the supervisors.

Kat
Rodriguez of Derechos Hermanos, sent the supervisors a letter
supporting Garcia. The letter contained 739 signatures supporting a
woman who has worked tirelessly for immigrants' rights, Rodriguez said.

The protest was not intended to incite violence; it was a traditional form of protest, she said.

"It was a symbol of the oppression we have seen," Rodriguez said.

Lori Oien seemed less concerned about Garcia's actions than the county's reaction.

"What is concerning to me is your approval by silence," she said.

County
Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said after the meeting that the county
is looking into Garcia's actions. The Legal Defender's Office, which
Garcia heads, takes indigent defense cases the Pima County public
defender can't because of conflicts or other reasons.

"It's under review," he said.

Several
speakers decried Garcia's actions as hurtful to law enforcement
officers. Larry Lopez, president of the Tucson Police Officers
Association, demanded an investigation.

"Law enforcement around this state does not think this is funny," he said.

Leilani Clark was at the July 10 protest and held the piñata. She denied Garcia had any hand in what the youths did.

"She had no control over us. . . . We acted on our own," Clark said.

Notice how the kids have been brainwashed into protecting her--juveniles.

Here is the letter of support, complete with all 739 names (
pdf link here):

I
suggest everyone contact ICE (866-347-2423) and the Border Patrol
Tucson Sector (520-748-3000) with these names and demand investigation
of them. The reasoning is they support illegals and are most likely
illegal themselves. At the very least, report Garcia and Rodriguez to
ICE, DHS and Border Patrol. The office information for Garcia is: Pima

Keep in mind this is not a First Amendment issue, this is an issue of
an attorney's blatant disregard for the law, her signing documents with
the Mexican government stating she would give aid and succor to illegal
border crossers, her disregard for the law regarding juveniles, her
attempts to stifle the freedom of others in their free speech, her
encouragement of violence upon lawfully elected law enforcement
officials, her delight in exhibiting a severed head (a la Nick Berg)
and doing it all on the taxpayer dime. It is about an attorney
violating the Model Rules of Procedure and her oaths of office.

It is not about hate speech--the only hate speech is her own. It is
not about hate actions--the only hate actions are her own. It is not
about legal immigration, it is about enforcement of current laws
regarding ILLEGALS.

It is about a corrupt city council and board of supervisors who shield her.

It is about time she is gone. Call, write, email--all the information
is here and below. Flood these offices with the demand she be removed
from public employ and disbarred. Don't let this rest.

[UPDATE JULY 17, 2008 #3]

Izzy's "partner in crime" Kat Rodriguez [coordinator of Coalicion de
Derechos Humanos] weighs in, using almost word for word Izzy's whiny,
spin filled diatribe from the Derechos site here.

[UPDATE JULY 17, 2008 #2] Sheriff Joe weighs in on Izzy here.

[UPDATE JULY 17, 2008]

Original article here.

This story is starting to pick up some traction and we need to keep up the pressure on Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry [contact information below], the State Bar of Arizona and the ethics review boards of the Bar and Pima County Merit Rules and Personnel Policies [Pima County Human Resources].

Speaking of the Pima County Merit Rules and Personnel Policies, they can be found here. Isabel Garcia has violated Rule 7-119 [Rules of Conduct] and the disciplinary procedures are addressed under Rule 12 [Disciplinary Actions, Administrative Suspension and Administrative Suspension; specifically Rule 12.1 C 10 and 12]. I know people who were fired for "dirty" emails on county time--Garcia's behavior is far more egregious in scope and gravity.

I also reported this woman to the State Attorney and received this response via email:
If you believe a public official to have broken the criminal or ethical
laws- then please put it all in writing along with links or print outs
of your pictures, videos etc and send them to:

Fraud and Public Corruption Section
Office of the Arizona Attorney General
1275 W Washington St
Phoenix, AZ 85007-2926

We cannot take complaints on the internet or phone still. Only in writing.
I would strongly suggest taking this action as well and keep flooding them with reports.

It's interesting to note the media in Tucson [the notable exception, of course, being Jon Justice' morning show on 104.1 The Truth,
from 6-9am Monday through Friday, who first broke the story] has yet to
pick up this story but has, in fact, buried it, despite the outcry from
the citizens of Tucson wanting investigation and exposure. Of course,
Garcia is a democrat and figures she's protected.

However.
Legal, taxpaying citizens of Tucson, those who pay Garcia's wage, have
spread the word far and wide. Michelle Malkin has two stories about
this incident, "Unhinged in Arizona: Open Borders mob, led by public official, ravages Joe Arpaio effigy" here and "Tucson open-borders official gloats about effigy-beating here".
So far, there are 211 comments on the first article and 39 on the
second article. Some of those comments are hilarious, yet a few bring
home a point people are noticing and it's not a pretty point.

Some of the comments from "Unhinged":
RedDog said: Dang! Does that chick holding up the effigy in the lead still photo look like Linda Blair or what!? eeeeeeeeee!

assemble, become “hate speech” and the encouragement to commit violence
against
law enforcement?

The only difference I see here, between Islamo-terrorists, and Azlano-terrorists is the language.

Unfortunately, to our demise, the liberals not only tolerate this type of action, they openly encourage it.

What we need is a law enforcement, Rapid Deployment Force,
that would descend on this type of illegal alien love-fest, round up
all participants/lookers-on, identify them, and if here illegally,
deport them.

What would you suppose would happen, if someone
created an effigy of a Latino “Illegal Jose,” and began beating it with
a bat (to the cheering and encouragement of a pro-American crowd, of,
oh I don’t know, say white people?) You got it! It would not be
tolerated…but this is?

Bill Grant said: Caution, disturbing links. Does this photo remind anyone else of the Nick Berg beheading? Do these creeps realize that? I wonder.
One
thing more and more people are seeing in Garcia's actions is how
similar her actions are to the terrorists we are fighting and to the
Mugabe regime. This is disturbing in the extreme. Commenter Bill Grant,
above, has the photos exactly right--Garcia emulates Berg's murderers
well.

Several commenters and people calling in to Jon's
show have made the observation should anyone have committed this "act
of free speech" upon an effigy of Garcia or an illegal, there would be
an uproar for weeks based on the alleged hate crime implicit in such an
action, yet Garcia gets away with this action with impunity. Such is
the hypocrisy of the lunatic left and their fringe followers. The
commenters and callers are, of course, correct. Here is the official,
2004 definition of "Hate Crime" from the FBI website here:

A
hate crime, also known as a bias crime, is a criminal offense committed
against a person, property, or society that is motivated, in whole or
in part, by the offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability,
sexual orientation, or ethnicity/national origin.

It's
about time that definition applied to those covered and committing such
acts themselves. Garcia committed a hate crime--and encouraged
juveniles to commit a hate crime themselves--with her actions. Just
because she is Mexican and follows the Reconquista/Aztlan/La Raza
agenda does not mean she's immune from the laws applying to the United
States.

She claims Jon Justice and Joe Arpaio are "haters"--yet
who stands like a Nick Berg murderer holding an effigy severed head?
Jon Justice is just as entitled to his opinion and Freedom of Speech as
Garcia; Joe Arpaio is doing his job of enforcing laws on the books, as
he was elected to do. Neither are inciting riots, contributing to the
delinquency of minors or disrupting private business. They are not
involved in conflicts of interest as Garcia is--encouraging illegal
activities while on the county payroll; hiding behind hate crime
legislation when it suits their purpose; committed to the overthrow of
the US Government she's sworn to uphold and violating her oath as an
attorney.

If people don't like what Jon has to say they won't
tune him in. If they don't like Arpaio's actions, they'll vote him out
of office. We don't have those choices with Garcia. She was appointed
to her position and Huckleberry refuses to remove her, despite a
growing demand from the legal taxpayers of Pima County.

Now, here's the "rich" part. Garcia responds on the Coalicion de Derechos Humanos website here.
Her "rebuttal" is entitled, "Response to Sheriff Arpaio Protest" and is
nothing more than a "whine fest"; not once does she address her own
wrongdoing. She pulls the usual spin; below are some quotes (comments
of mine inserted and emphasized):
...many
of us in Tucson have made a promise that we will not allow him to come
into our town without him hearing from those of us who stand in support
of the thousands of workers and their families who have borne the brunt
of his narrow-minded, ignorant policies. That he would come to Tucson
to promote a book filled with lies, fear, and ignorant perspectives
about immigrants, was especially appalling to us.

The
leaflet states that we "continue to work for a community that is
diverse, respectful, and appreciative of each other's differences."
Others brought signs and megaphones, with someone bringing a large
piñata with Arpaio's face glued on the head. I am sure you are aware
that these types of symbolic images are not only
common, but generally are used in context of referring to the policies of individuals in power.

I am now the target of a corporate-media-sponsored campaign to get me fired from my job as the Pima County Legal Defender (who is the corporate-media-sponsor?).
The first thing that you should know is that this is not a
community-based campaign by those that disagree with me, but a campaign
that was instigated by Jon Justice (not his true name) who has a program in the new hate-radio in town, 104.1 FM.
On Friday morning, he was on his program urging everyone to call Chuck
Huckelberry to fire me because I dared exercise my 1st Amendment right
to express my views. (And we
are entitled to exercise our First Amendment rights to express OUR
views in wanting you GONE-Jon didn't hold guns to our heads to call and
write!)
They cover it by saying that the breaking of a
piñata is a violent act! ??? That is simply absurd. The piñata was a
symbol of Arpaio's racist, violent and brutal policies. The youth did
not hit Arpaio,
they hit the piñata to break the policies that keep
us fearful of each other, and that have caused so much pain to so many
hardworking men, women and their children. (And this differs from the actions of islamists in the Middle East how?)
He is the violent one. I have spoken directly to some of his
victims/survivors of his power, and have cried just listening to their
accounts.

I am proud to have been part of
the community's response to his arrival in Tucson. We stand committed
to stop hatred and xenophobia (it seems you and your cadre are the ones exhibiting the hatred and xenophobia by your actions and encouragement), and to work for a society that respects human rights for
everyone
regardless of their age, color, race, ethnic background, gender,
gender-preference, religion. As an attorney I find it is not only my
right, but my responsibility to stand up when the power of the state is
used to crush people (it is
not your right or responsibility to advocate the overthrow of a legal
government or engage in inappropriate political activity nor to
advocate illegal activity in minors)
. I will continue to do so.

Follow
the link and read the entire drivel--make sure your stomach is empty
beforehand as you will be heaving at the heaping of self serving,
absolute delusional lunatic agenda.

The Tucson Citizen also has an article up entitled, "The big debate: Joe Arpaio, pinata". Below are some quotes from that article:
Immigration
rights protesters acted like "out-of-control, raving lunatics" when
they destroyed a piñata bearing the likeness of Maricopa County Sheriff
Joe Arpaio, "a bully with a badge" who was in Tucson last week to
promote his book, says Citizen columnist Anne T. Denogean.
Garcia, whose Human Rights Coalition organized the protest, said breaking the piñata was "funny."

No,
it was "classless," says Reyes F. and "treasonous," (Chris F.). Garcia
should make a public apology, Adam L. says. Bruce S. terms the protest
"disgusting" and wonders how Pima County officials would distinguish
between Garcia's involvement in it and another employee's participation
in a Ku Klux Klan rally.
And that last line is the very
heart of the matter--had this been a white person engaging in this kind
of behavior, a white Pima County Deputy Public Defender, paid by the
legal taxpaying citizens, and this had been a klan rally, they would
have been fired already.

Denogean's article, "Protesters as offensive as Sheriff Arpaio", has this to say:
But I don't think you persuade the public that the man is an
out-of-control, raving lunatic by behaving like out-of-control, raving
lunatics.

That's
the kindest description I have for the immigration rights protesters
who beat to a pulp a piñata meant to represent the sheriff during
Arpaio's visit to Tucson last week.

What occurred about midway
through the protest, however, was truly disturbing. Several young
protesters outside the store brought out a piñata meant to represent
Arpaio.

The piñata, with a picture of Arpaio's face taped or
glued to the head, was clad in a sheriff's uniform and equipped with
pink handcuffs. One woman held up the piñata, while teenage protesters
took turns bashing it with sticks. The Tucson Citizen ran a picture the
next day of a teenage boy carting away the remains of the beheaded
piñata.

While the beating of Arpaio in effigy proceeded, Isabel
Garcia, head of Humanos Derechos, a group that purports to stand for
the dignity of all human beings, stood by and laughed.
Follow
the link above to the rest of the article--it's extremely enlightening.
The Citizen also ran a poll with that article asking, "Do you think
Coalicion de Derechos went too far when it smashed an Arpaio pinata?".
Overwhelmingly, the answer was "Yes, members act like the people they
say they hate (91%) compared to just six percent saying "No, it was
deserved" and two percent saying "Other" (total number of votes=759).

The
bottom line is this: Isabel Garcia, Pima County Deputy Public Defender,
paid by the legal taxpayers of Pima County, needs to be fired and
disbarred. Please follow the links to the appropriate officials and
agencies and keep up the pressure. The officials and agencies will do
NOTHING about it without overwhelming public pressure, stating clearly
and unequivocally we are tired of this nonsense and we want the cancer
GONE. Do your part to remove the cancer that is Isabel Garcia.

Virginia up for grabs... but not really.

Note: This post can also be found on Battle Ground States '08.

Viriginia is now a battleground state, except it's not.

We haven't voted for a democrat since 1964, and Bush won with a nearly 10% margin in each of his elections, but that isnt going to stop Barack Obama from trying.

Indeed, the growing population in the largely democratic north has given hope to the democratic presidential candidate that he may be able to grab our 13 electoral votes.

But how realistic are his chances? There is no doubt that the moderate north is swinging more democratic after the policies of Bush, but no democrat not named Mark Warner has won in the state with any substantial margin. Kaine barely accrued 51% of the vote and Jim Webb was still within the recount number. And these were in non-presidential years.

In other words, don't count it. At least thats what John McCain's campaign believes - his ads are clearly targeted at energizing the south. The strategy is simple - get the republican base to the polls. It worked for Bush and just about every Republican before him.

How about that news buzzing about that Obama may select Kaine as his running mate? Thats good news for Republicans. The governor is not very popular in his own state - after failing to alleviate the massive transportation problems and alienating the republican legislature, Kaine will deliver Virginia - to the Republicans.
